Tunis
A canceled ticket for March 2020 (the first COVID-19 cancellation) meant I had to try again. Luckily, from either Portugal or Spain, it is just a short and inexpensive flight. So I went towards the end of the summer and, to be fair, it was hot - very hot(!) - but still enjoyable.
In Tunis I visited the old ruins of Carthage, one of the classic centers around the Mediterranean (together with Athens and Rome of course). One of the main attractions is Sidi Bou Said, which reminded me of Greece with its blue and white colour pallet and view across the sea.
The souks of Tunis were nice. From the hotel I stayed, the Royal Victoria, it was easy to go in and out. Not too crowded or overly touristy either when compared to similar places in Morocco. And the last few days I spent at the resort town of Hammamet. Cool down in the sea, visit the Kashbah and see if I could find myself a beer instead of the regular cold water with coffee. Celtia. A local Tunesian beer no less!
An enjoyable trip. Relax. Friendly people and not too far.
